I Hate Earthlink (The Saga Continues)

So last night I get a call from an Earthlink person- totally unrelated to the issue I posted yesterday. This guy has no idea that I’ve been on the phone all day with the other Earthlink folks. He has some great news…

The line going to my house doesn’t support DSL and I have to call the phone company or switch to cable. But, if I switch to cable, Earthlink has a relationship with providers in my area- so I can keep the email addresses and account.

To recap, I was told on the phone yesreday that the order had been dropped, but this guy was telling me that it went through enough to have him check the phone line. He verified that he saw the problem with the phone line today- so it couldn't have made the original DSL become inactive.

So, I call the phone company and they say that they can have someone look at the line in about a week and if they can fix it, it would take 2-3 weeks depending on the service needed. This would be on top of the 4 weeks it would take Earthlink to get DSL going through it. I decide to go with cable.

Today I call Comcast cable company and they verify that cable is available in my area, but I have to go through Earthlink to set it up- which is what I didn’t want to hear.

I called Earthlink and their response was “You do not live in an area where we offer cable”. To which my reply was, “I just spoke to Comcast and checked their site and they said it was available”. Earthlink’s reply “Yes, but we only have a limited relationship with Comcast and we don’t offer cable to all of their service areas. You’ll have to go through Comcast.”

So instead of continuing to deal with Earthlink’s incompetence and waiting 2 months to get DSL up, I’m going to go with Comcast I think. Earthlink has left me no choice but to leave their service.

Oh, did I mention that I have not heard from the customer support supervisor?

Lastly, did I mention that I hate Earthlink?

Earthlink. Arrrrrrgh. Don't get me started. I feel your pain, guy. I persevered through the Earthlink DSL nightmare to the bitter end it so I could keep the same email address I've used for 10 yrs. However, now that I've gone through the cell-phone-provider-switch (love my new phone too BTW, but no pics) I think I might be able to handle an ISP change whenever that next time comes.
Good luck with all that.

well on the bright side, with a new email address, it will give you a little lull from those relentless bastards who think everyone with email is in need of penis enlargments and home loans...

and Earthlink can bite it....

I DESPISE Earthlink! They have a glitch in their phone tree that loops you into Satellite "support" where you promptly get disconnected. Just too much fun after a 20 minute wait.
I've really had no complaint with Eathlink until today - but after four hours dealing with tier one morons telling me that that it must be my fault that I can't get through . . .I am pulling the plug and going directly to DirecWay for my broadband and will shop for someone to host my site. Any suggestions??

earthlink has me on there mystery billing plan.
in 08 of 2003 i signed up at 21.95 full acsess.45 day free trail.
they promptly billed me for 28.95.
this was corrected via email.
then via email i was informed that
they will no longer charge for total access 2003,reducing my bill
to 14.95.
well after revuing my billing after falling behind and paying mutli mounth bills,i notice they
have been billing me at 21.95
all along.
there story is i signed up for 28.95 with total access 2003.
that was never offered here,it was 21.95 with total access 2003.
in fact you'ed have to be a chump at 28.95.
the up shot is they cant explain the $14.00 credit on my first bill.
have you noticed thet dont support any forums on there site.
maybe customers can compair horror
stories.
regards
mike

Funny Mike. I do wonder if they fear their users- which would explain the lack of any forums.

I hate earthlink too. I subscribed thru Earthlink via Time Warner. For the 1st 2 months service was great, fast Internet speeds, no problems what so ever. Then my cable became temperamental. Slowing down to a halt, no working at all. I called probably 10 times to finally resolve this, with ~ 20-45 min each call. I received a credit for my 3 months of not operating, although I probably spent well over 30+ hours trying to get this resolved.

My real problems came when I moved and no longer wanted their service, going directly with Time Warner. They continued to bill me @ $21.95 which was automatically charged to my credit card. Customer Service cannot understand that when one moves they no longer want service at their old address. I told them explicitly I don’t want to be billed anymore, don’t want their freak’in service anymore, not even the email address . They continue to bill my credit card every month to date. I did not authorize these payments and may seek legal action if this continues.
