Gak- a Holiday Tradition
For the past few years, Sachiko has made a kind of porridge or gruel from leftover turkey parts called "jook". Jook is a local favorite in Hawaii and something she looks forward to every year. I think the name is Korean.
In itself, "jook" isn't that funny, but it has grown to be a source of neverending amusement for me. Somewhere along the way, I started calling jook "gak" and I'm not sure why.
Now, I know that this isn't funny to many people, but I think a food called "gak" is freaking halarious. I can't seem to say the word without laughing. I'm even laughing as I write this.
The other night I asked Sachiko what she was eating and she replied "Gak" and I laughed for about 10 minutes. I pictured our kids going to school in the future with the soup and telling their friends that it's "gak". I don't think anything sounds less appetizing than a food called gak.
So, "jook" is slowly becoming "gak" in our house and I love it.
dood, there is basically know difference in funniness between "jook" and "gak." just sayin'.
