The Tiniest Graffiti

I don't normally take pictures in bathrooms, but this is no normal bathroom wall...

You see, there is an art form emerging in the cracks of the tiles on this particular bathroom wall. The wall is in the men's bathroom at the Elysian Brewery in Seattle's Capitol Hill. I noticed it a couple of years ago and watched it grow. I had a camera on me yesterday and took the chance to document exactly what is going on.

I don't know the history, but someone, sometime wrote something like "The Grout Gatsby" in tiny letters on the grout between the tiles. This was followed by many, many more uses of the word "grout". It's the tiniest form of graffiti I've ever seen.

Here are some selected examples for your pleasure...

Ain't No Groutin High Enough

Maybe if I was more creative, I'd have some meaningful contribution to the wall.

I remember a few years ago being trapped in the handicap stall in the woman's bathroom at Reed College in Portland trying to decipher the writing in the grout.

I remember seeing something similar some 20-odd (!?) years ago. Nope, make that about 30 years ago. I can only remember a few, but I also remember scouring (!?) the walls looking for more grout humor.

"It's grout to be here..."

"Grout day in the mornin'!"
